The role of medical office assistants is of great importance especially in the health care industry. The first person whom the patients contact in a clinic or hospital is the medical office assistant. They perform many roles, right from maintaining patient’s records to assisting the physician in small medical procedures. In small clinics, they are required to do all clinical and clerical jobs while in hospitals, they are trained to perform certain specific tasks. The performance of the entire medical unit mostly depends on the efficiency of the medical office assistants. With the thriving health care industry, there is a growing need for efficient medical office assistants. The medical assistants are also required in insurance industries and also to help perform the front office work effectively.

Upon the doctor’s supervision, they also administer medicines and injections. In case of hospitalization, they assist the patients accordingly. The so many roles played by the medical assistants make them an inevitable part of the health care unit.

The medical office assistants are also required by the front office to assist them in patient billing. They help to raise invoices and ensure timely payment. They are required to validate the various insurance claims. Medical assistants are the contact point for the insurance companies. They also help the patients in getting appropriate waivers. This makes the job even more important.

As the job is challenging, there has always been a great demand for efficient medical office assistant for the smooth functioning of the health care units. They must be adequately certified and be able to multi task efficiently. With good understanding of the medical and software technologies, they help to build a good patient-doctor relationship.
